A Family Garden On A Sloping Site In Hitchin, Hertfordshire

The clients requested a contemporary design for their garden in Hitchin, but with a warm relaxed atmosphere. The garden also needed to include a safe play area for their daughter. The site was terraced to create four different levels. A sandstone path intersects the garden, with inset LED lighting creating a very dramatic effect at night. An area finished with purple slate chippings creates the ideal place to relax and soak up the last rays of sunshine. Diaphanous grasses give a sense of seclusion without affecting the sunlight. Elsewhere, planting was given an exotic feel, using Australian tree ferns and New Zealand Flax., and hot colours. The lower level houses play equipment on a soft bark surface. A garden for all the family to enjoy!
